2028 Tesla Roadster Revealed: Flying Electric Supercar Hits 60 MPH in Just 0.81 Seconds.
Tesla has officially unveiled the 2028 Tesla Roadster, showcasing an extraordinary electric supercar capable of flying, driving upside down and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 0.81 seconds. Revealed at a SpaceX facility in Texas, the long-awaited second-generation Roadster finally made its public debut nearly nine years after its original announcement.
The new Tesla Roadster 2.0 features a radically redesigned exterior with sharper, more aggressive styling inspired by Tesla's latest design language. However, its biggest innovation is the groundbreaking SpaceX thruster technology, developed to deliver extreme acceleration and limited flight capabilities.
During the unveiling, Tesla demonstrated the electric hypercar driving upside down on a curved ramp before launching into the air, performing a flip and landing safely. The system uses ultra-high-pressure compressed air and multiple thrusters to control the vehicle's movement and altitude.
In a separate demonstration, Tesla recorded an astonishing 0–60 mph acceleration time of 0.81 seconds, potentially redefining electric supercar performance if replicated in a production model.
Originally announced in 2017, the Tesla Roadster promised a top speed exceeding 250 mph (402 km/h), up to 620 miles (998 km) of electric range and a 200 kWh battery. These original specifications have not yet been reconfirmed for the redesigned model.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk emphasized that the Roadster will focus on manual driving, offering an experience unlike the company's increasingly autonomous electric vehicles.
Despite the spectacular demonstration, 2028 Tesla Roadster pricing, production dates and customer deliveries remain unconfirmed. Questions also remain about whether its flying capabilities could receive road-use approval.
The new Tesla Roadster represents one of the most ambitious electric hypercar projects yet, combining Tesla performance engineering with SpaceX aerospace technology.
